The Laithe at Rotcher.

Soft pastel, 18"x23", grey Ingres paper.

This unfinished picture was painted from a black and white photograph taken during the 1950s at our old West Yorkshire home.   The "Laithe" of the title refers to a cowhouse attached to the dwelling, a Grade II listed stone built farmhouse.  On the left hand side of the picture you can see the grid method used to aid the transfer of detail from the photograph to the painting.  My cousin now lives there and has modernised the interior.  The part depicted is now within a spacious and comfortable living room.
