Time Moves On!

Now for a pictorial trip down memory lane.  The images on this page were provided by Roy "Oscar" Wild of Frobisher Division, Series 5 (1949-50), and are reproduced here with his consent.  Taken in 2001, they show the Fisgard site some eighteen years after its closure and they bear only a superficial resemblance to how the site looked as a fully functional Naval training establishment. The comments on the images are "Oscars".

To see how  Fisgard used to look in its heyday visit www.fisgardassociation.org the official establishment website which abounds with stories and images of those turbulent times.

Last, but by no means least, is a bit of memorabilia rescued from a gash bin (waste-paper basket) by Oscar sometime during 1949 and carefully preserved for the last 55 years.  Clearly the work of an aspiring cartoonist it may have been intended for a contribution to the Fisgard magazine.  It shows a smart leading apprentice (note the star on the sleeve) ordering a senior apprentice to go to bed.  From recollection it is fairly typical of the style and humour of apprentice's cartoons of that era.  Sadly there is no signature but perhaps someone who sees it may remember the artist.
